ROGAINING
Rogaining is the sport of cross-country navigation. Teamwork, endurance, strategy and map reading are features. Teams must prioritise their goals (a team can not reach all the checkpoints within the timeframe), determine which are achievable and which have the best value for their desired outcome. Rogaining is a practice in business planning, strategy creation, action plans, responsilbity and team work. The objective is to collect the highest score by finding checkpoints within a set time limit (it is not possible to reach all checkpoints within the time frame). Teams travel on foot. Teams navigate with the aid of aerial photographs, roughly drawn maps, an analogue compass, waypoints and common sense. Teams select their own order of visiting checkpoints, in terrain that varies from open countryside to surrounding suburbs to the beach to the surrounding bush. Rogaining aims to support and encourage people to develop respect for and enjoyment of the environment; and to encourage the development of navigational skills, self reliance, general fitness, and the ability to work in a team.
